How it is put together
Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.
- 3 horizontal bands
The fly edge changes colour going down, the foot does not, and every change is a straight line right across.
What is on it
Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.
- star
The national flag of Ghana consists of a horizontal triband of red, yellow, and green with a black five-pointed star in the center taking up all of the width of the yellow stripe, touching the red and green stripes.

What we know about it
Adopted at the independence of the Dominion of Ghana on 6 March 1957, the flag was designed that same year by Theodosia Okoh, an artist and teacher; it replaced the British Gold Coast's Blue Ensign. The black star comes from the Black Star Line, the shipping line Marcus Garvey incorporated, which operated from 1919 to 1922, and stands for the emancipation of Africa and unity against colonialism. Ghana flew it until 1962 and reinstated it in 1966, after Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown.
Drafted from Flag of Ghana on Wikipedia, as it read on 2026-08-26, and checked back against it: every date, name and number above appears in the sentences it was written from. Nobody here wrote it by hand.
Its day
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
Pan-African Colors
Flags people genuinely mix up. Worth a second look.
