What we know about it
The PAIGC adopted the design in 1961, echoing the Pan-African colours already used by neighbouring Ghana and Guinea, and adding the Black Star of Africa, an established symbol of anti-colonial resistance; Guinea-Bissau took it on the day it proclaimed independence from Portugal, 24 September 1973, with the party's initials gone. The star symbolises the leadership of the PAIGC and its colour the people of Africa; yellow and green correspond to the northern savannas and the southern forests, and the red bar at the hoist represents the country's position on the West coast of Africa.

Its day
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
Pan-African Colors
Flags people genuinely mix up. Worth a second look.
