How it is put together
Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.
- 3 horizontal bands
The fly edge changes colour going down, the foot does not, and every change is a straight line right across.
- a disc
A single round device near the middle, as wide as it is tall, filling its box the way a circle does.
What is on it
Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.
- star

What we know about it
Menelik II adopted the modern tricolour on 11 October 1897, a year after Ethiopia defeated the Kingdom of Italy at the Battle of Adwa; the present flag dates from 31 October 1996. Menelik had the three pennants combined into one rectangular tricolour, red over yellow over green, with the first letter of his name on the central stripe; the letter went after his death in 1913, and for unknown reasons the order was flipped. What the colours symbolise varies with point of view, though red is generally taken for the blood spilled in defence of Ethiopia.

Its days
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on 2 of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
Pan-African Colors
Flags people genuinely mix up. Worth a second look.
