Other flags with red, white or blue or all of red, white and blue at once.
How it is put together
Nothing the measurement has a word for. It reads eight shapes off a picture: bands, a canton, a wedge at the pole, a disc. This flag is not any of them, so the space is left empty rather than filled with a description nobody took. The finder says what else it cannot see.
What is on it
Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.
- cross
Merkið is a white Nordic cross flag with a red cross outlined in blue.

What we know about it
Faroese students in Copenhagen led by Jens Oliver Lisberg created the design in 1919, and it was first hoisted at Fámjin, in the Faroe Islands, on 22 June 1919. On 25 April 1940, during the British occupation in World War II, Merkið was recognised by the British authorities for use by Faroese vessels, a date observed as Flaggdagur; the 1948 home-rule settlement provides that a special Faroese flag is recognised. The Faroese Flag Act sets the proportions at 8:11, though 5:7 is also commonly encountered in practice.
Drafted from Flag of the Faroe Islands on Wikipedia, as it read on 2026-08-26, and checked back against it: every date, name and number above appears in the sentences it was written from. Nobody here wrote it by hand.
Its days
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on 2 of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
Nordic Crosses
Flags people genuinely mix up. Worth a second look.
