Known as the Golden Arrowhead, it was designed by the American vexillologist Whitney Smith and adopted in May 1966, when the country became independent from the United Kingdom; the black and white fimbriations were not in his original, and were later additions suggested by the College of Arms. Red is zeal and dynamism, green agriculture and forests, black endurance, white the rivers and water.
