How it is put together
Nothing the measurement has a word for. It reads eight shapes off a picture: bands, a canton, a wedge at the pole, a disc. This flag is not any of them, so the space is left empty rather than filled with a description nobody took. The finder says what else it cannot see.
What is on it
Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.
- bird
The placement of the eagle and block of stripes at the flag's fly is notable as most emblems and devices on flags are placed at centre or at the hoist.

What we know about it
Kenneth David Kaunda, the first Republican president, adopted the flag at independence on 24 October 1964; until then it was the British protectorate of Northern Rhodesia, flying a Blue Ensign. Green is the country's natural resources and vegetation, red its struggle for freedom, black its people, orange the mineral wealth (copper, above all), and the African fish eagle represents the people's ability to rise above the nation's problems. The green was adjusted in 1996 to a lighter and brighter shade.
Drafted from Flag of Zambia on Wikipedia, as it read on 2026-08-26, and checked back against it: every date, name and number above appears in the sentences it was written from. Nobody here wrote it by hand.
Its day
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
