Colours
Read from the flag itself, down to the exact shade.
- #fcdc04
- #000000
- #d90000
- #ffffff
How it is put together
Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.
- 6 horizontal bands
The fly edge changes colour going down, the foot does not, and every change is a straight line right across.
- a disc
A single round device near the middle, as wide as it is tall, filling its box the way a circle does.
What is on it
Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.
- bird
Charged in the centre is a white disc with a crested crane.

What we know about it
A committee chaired by Senteza Kajubi proposed a provisional flag in March 1962, scrapped after the Uganda People's Congress defeated the Democratic Party in the 25 April national election; the design that took its place was approved by a Cabinet subcommittee, then by the Cabinet and the British colonial authorities, and adopted on 9 October, the day Uganda became independent. Whitney Smith reads black as the Ugandan people, yellow as sunshine and red as brotherhood; the crested crane is the national bird and a symbol of good fortune, longevity and wealth among the Baganda.
Drafted from Flag of Uganda on Wikipedia, as it read on 2026-09-04, and checked back against it: every date, name and number above appears in the sentences it was written from. Nobody here wrote it by hand.
Its day
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
