Colours

Read from the flag itself, down to the exact shade.

How it is put together

Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.

  • 3 horizontal bands

The fly edge changes colour going down, the foot does not, and every change is a straight line right across.

red ones · white ones · green ones

  • a canton

A rectangle in the top corner by the pole that is not what the rest of the flag is, and that stops cleanly on both its sides.

red ones · white ones · green ones

What is on it

Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.

  • sword

The national flag of Oman (Arabic: علم عُمان) consists of two horizontal stripes of upper white and lower green, separated by a red horizontal "T" shape in the centre that contains the national emblem of Oman (crossed swords over a khanjar, a traditional curved dagger).

What we know about it

Oman flew a plain red banner until 1970; after Sultan Qaboos bin Said overthrew his father that year, white and green bands were added to the fly and the Al Bu Said dynasty's badge went in the canton. White is associated historically with the Imam, Oman's religious leader, and green with the Jebel Akhdar, the Green Mountains toward the north of the country. The proportions have moved twice since: from 3:4 to 1:2 on 25 April 1995, and to 4:7 on 22 May 2004.

Its days

The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on 2 of them, with the sentence that says so.

Nearest in the world

Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
