How it is put together
Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.
- 3 horizontal bands
The fly edge changes colour going down, the foot does not, and every change is a straight line right across.
What we know about it
The design descends from a flag that Francisco de Miranda and Lino de Clemente created in 1801 for Venezuela's First Republic; the arrangement in use now was adopted on November 26, 1861. The upper band takes half the total height, a ratio of 2:1:1, which is what sets the Colombian and Ecuadorian flags apart from most other tricolours. Miranda traced his choice of colours to a late-night conversation with Goethe at a party in Weimar in 1785.

Its day
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
The Gran Colombia Trio
Flags people genuinely mix up. Worth a second look.
