How it is put together
Nothing the measurement has a word for. It reads eight shapes off a picture: bands, a canton, a wedge at the pole, a disc. This flag is not any of them, so the space is left empty rather than filled with a description nobody took. The finder says what else it cannot see.
What is on it
Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.
- star
The national flag of Algeria consists of two equal vertical bars, green and white, charged in the center with a red star and crescent, a symbol of Islam as the nation's prominent faith.

What we know about it
The flag was adopted on 3 July 1962, and a similar version had served the Algerian government in exile from 1958. Interpretations of its parts differ: Malek Chebel reads the green as Islam and the white as purity, while Khaled Merzouk takes the green stripe for the earth and agriculture and the white for peace. The crescent and star are read as symbols of Islam, and the star's five points as the five pillars.
Drafted from Flag of Algeria on Wikipedia, as it read on 2026-08-26, and checked back against it: every date, name and number above appears in the sentences it was written from. Nobody here wrote it by hand.
Its day
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
Star & Crescent
Flags people genuinely mix up. Worth a second look.
