How it is put together
Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.
- 5 horizontal bands
The fly edge changes colour going down, the foot does not, and every change is a straight line right across.
What is on it
Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.
- star

What we know about it
Jack Pinas, an art teacher and graphic designer, won the national competition, though some changes were made to his design; the Surinamese parliament accepted it in 1975, the flag was legally adopted on 25 November of that year at independence from the Netherlands, and it was raised for the first time on Independence Day. Green represents the richness of the country's agricultural lands, white freedom and independence, red progress and hope; the star reflects the sacrifices endured for independence, the unity of the country and a bright future. The different colours also indicate the Surinamese political parties.

Its day
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
