Other flags with green, black or orange or all of green, black and orange at once.
How it is put together
Nothing the measurement has a word for. It reads eight shapes off a picture: bands, a canton, a wedge at the pole, a disc. This flag is not any of them, so the space is left empty rather than filled with a description nobody took. The finder says what else it cannot see.
What is on it
Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.
- saltire
The flag consists of a gold saltire, which divides the flag into four sections: two of them green (top and bottom) and two black (hoist and fly).

What we know about it
Over 360 designs were submitted before independence and the competition produced no winner, so a bipartisan committee of the Jamaican House of Representatives came up with this one; the saltire was substituted for horizontal stripes considered too similar to Tanganyika's flag of 1962. An earlier reading of the colours was that “the land is green and the sun shineth”; in 1996, on the recommendation of a committee chaired by Rex Nettleford, black became the strength and creativity of the people rather than hardship.
Drafted from Flag of Jamaica on Wikipedia, as it read on 2026-08-26, and checked back against it: every date, name and number above appears in the sentences it was written from. Nobody here wrote it by hand.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
