Colours
Read from the flag itself, down to the exact shade.
- #ffffff
- #c8102e
Other flags with red or white or all of red and white at once.
How it is put together
Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.
- 2 horizontal bands
The fly edge changes colour going down, the foot does not, and every change is a straight line right across.
- a disc
A single round device near the middle, as wide as it is tall, filling its box the way a circle does.
What we know about it
The idea of a flag of its own was first entertained in 1973, when five Greenlanders proposed one; a newspaper solicited 11 proposals the following year, all but one of them a Nordic cross, and the deciding committee could not come to a consensus. Thue Christiansen's design finally won by a vote of 14 to 11 and was officially adopted on 21 June 1985. Its creator described the white stripe as the glaciers and the ice cap covering more than 80% of the island, the red stripe as the ocean, the red semicircle as the sun, its bottom part sunk in the ocean, and the white semicircle as the icebergs and the pack ice.

Its day
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
