How it is put together

Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.

  • a single-coloured ground

The fly edge and the foot are one colour, and the same one, whatever else is drawn on top of it.

red ones · white ones · blue ones

  • a canton

A rectangle in the top corner by the pole that is not what the rest of the flag is, and that stops cleanly on both its sides.

red ones · white ones · blue ones

What we know about it

The islands were given a flag of their own in 1876: a Blue Ensign carrying the seal of the islands, which showed HMS Hebe in Falkland Sound overlooked by a bullock. A new coat-of-arms was introduced on 16 October 1925, with a sea lion and the Desire (the ship of John Davis, reputed to have discovered the islands in 1592) under the motto Desire the Right; on 29 September 1948 the flag was updated to include it, superimposed upon a white disc. The arms were then enlarged and the white disc removed, and the current flag was adopted on 25 January 1999.

Its days

The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on 2 of them, with the sentence that says so.

Nearest in the world

Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
