How it is put together

Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.

  • 5 horizontal bands

The fly edge changes colour going down, the foot does not, and every change is a straight line right across.

  • a triangle at the pole

A wedge whose base is the whole pole edge, widest halfway down, in a colour the fly side is not painted in.

What is on it

Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.

  • star

The national flag of Cuba, also known as the Flag of the Lone Star (Spanish: Bandera de la Estrella Solitaria), consists of five alternating stripes (three navy blue and two white) and a cherry red chevron at the hoist, within which is a white five-pointed star.

What we know about it

Designed in 1849 by the poet Miguel Teurbe Tolón alongside López, the flag was first hoisted by Cuban rebels who took the coastal town of Cárdenas on May 19, 1850, and officially adopted on May 20, 1902. The three blue stripes stand for the three departments Cuba was divided into at the time, the white for the purity of the patriot cause, and the red triangle for strength and constancy. It has remained unchanged since a decree of 1906 fixed its specifications.

Its days

The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on 3 of them, with the sentence that says so.

Nearest in the world

Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
