Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.

What is on it

Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.

  • star

It is a blue ensign containing the Union Jack in the upper left, and on the right, fifteen stars in a ring.

What we know about it

The Cook Islands Parliament saw a Federal Flag Bill proposed in 1892, which was not assented to; New Zealand annexed the islands in 1901, and its own flag was used instead. A contest in 1973 drew 120 entries, and the winner (an ensign with 15 stars in a circle) was raised for the first time on 24 January 1974, only to be replaced by the current flag in 1979. The fifteen stars stand for the fifteen islands of the country, and the blue is the ocean, and the peaceful nature of the inhabitants; in December 2023 Prime Minister Mark Brown suggested changing back to the 1973–1979 version, and in January 2024 that the decision could be put to a referendum.

Its day

The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.

Nearest in the world

Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
