Colours
Read from the flag itself, down to the exact shade.
- #da291c
- #ffffff
- #0032a0
Other flags with red, white or blue or all of red, white and blue at once.
How it is put together
Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.
- 2 horizontal bands
The fly edge changes colour going down, the foot does not, and every change is a straight line right across.
- a canton
A rectangle in the top corner by the pole that is not what the rest of the flag is, and that stops cleanly on both its sides.
What is on it
Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.
- star
The flag of Chile consists of two equal-height horizontal bands of white and red, with a blue square the same height as the white band in the canton, which bears a white five-pointed star in its center.

What we know about it
Adopted on 18 October 1817, the flag is called in Spanish La Estrella Solitaria, the Lone Star. The star is said to represent Venus, significant to the Mapuches, while other interpretations take it for an independent state; blue is read as the sky and the Pacific Ocean, white as the snow-covered Andes and red as the blood spilled to achieve independence. Flag Day falls on the ninth of July, for the 77 soldiers who died at the 1882 Battle of La Concepción.
Drafted from Flag of Chile on Wikipedia, as it read on 2026-08-26, and checked back against it: every date, name and number above appears in the sentences it was written from. Nobody here wrote it by hand.
Its day
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
