The flag of Nigeria was designed by Taiwo Akinkunmi and was officially adopted to represent Nigeria at midnight on 1 October 1960, the day the country gained independence.

Tuvalu became an independent and sovereign state on 1 October 1978, exactly three years after its separation from the Gilbert Islands (now Kiribati), and adopted a new national flag designed by Vione Natano.
