What we know about it
The flag was officially adopted for the first time with the constitution of 28 November 1975, and the symbolism given to it then was black for the four centuries of colonial oppression, the arrowhead for the traces of colonialism and the struggle for independence, red for the spilled blood of the population, and the star for hope of a better future. The new Constitution of 2002 specifies the meanings as: black is obscurantism, which must be overcome, red the struggle for national liberation, and the star, the light that guides, peace.
