How it is put together
Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.

The fly edge changes colour going down, the foot does not, and every change is a straight line right across.
red ones · white ones · blue ones · green ones · black ones
- a triangle at the pole
A wedge whose base is the whole pole edge, widest halfway down, in a colour the fly side is not painted in.
red ones · white ones · blue ones · green ones · black ones
What is on it
Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.
- star
Another difference between the flags of Sudan and South Sudan is that there is a yellow star inside the blue triangle (like the flag of the Belgian Congo), representing the national unity of South Sudan.

What we know about it
The flag predates the country: it was adopted in 2005, when the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed and the Second Sudanese Civil War ended, while independence came in 2011; a different version had been the flag of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement. On 25 August 2023 the Media Authority identified the correct version as the one with a light blue triangle and an upright star, and it is now illegal to distribute reproductions with a dark blue triangle or a tilted star. Black is the people, red the blood shed for independence, green the land and its wealth, white peace, and blue the waters of the Nile River, a source of life.

Its day
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
