How it is put together
Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.
- a single-coloured ground
The fly edge and the foot are one colour, and the same one, whatever else is drawn on top of it.
- a canton
A rectangle in the top corner by the pole that is not what the rest of the flag is, and that stops cleanly on both its sides.
What we know about it
Saint Helena was accorded its own badge in 1874, showing the territory's rocky coastline and an East Indiaman; a redesign in 1984 added the Saint Helena plover to the upper portion, publicised in the island's government gazette that January; the Admiralty granted authorisation a decade later, in 1994. The bird, popularly referred to by Saint Helenians as the wirebird, is the last species of bird endemic to the island and its official bird; and the ship below it, a three-masted sailing ship flying the Cross of Saint George, is a symbol of the Kingdom of England. The flag also served Tristan da Cunha, and Ascension Island unofficially, until those adopted their own in 2002 and 2013.

Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
