- #ec1d25
- #034da2
- #ffffff
Other flags with red, white or blue or all of red, white and blue at once.
How it is put together
Measured off the picture, the same way the colours were, not from anybody's description of it.
- 5 horizontal bands
The fly edge changes colour going down, the foot does not, and every change is a straight line right across.
What is on it
Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.
- star
The central red panel bears a five-pointed red star within a white circle near the hoist.

What we know about it
Adopted on 8 September 1948 with the passing of the first constitution, the flag has a disputed authorship: the government credits Kim Il Sung, the artist Kim Chu-gyong was previously recognised as its designer, and Pak Il, a Soviet-Korean interpreter, claimed it was designed by the government of the Soviet Union, an account corroborated by another Soviet-Korean, Chŏng Sangjin. In February 1948 An Mong-yong proposed changing the ratio from 1:2 to 2:3, and was dismissed by the chairman Kim Tu-bong; on 23 March 2026 an amendment changed the proportions to 1:1.65. Its display is banned in South Korea by the National Security Act, with exceptions for film, television and sport.
Drafted from Flag of North Korea on Wikipedia, as it read on 2026-08-26, and checked back against it: every date, name and number above appears in the sentences it was written from. Nobody here wrote it by hand.
Its days
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on 2 of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
