What we know about it
An unspecified designer handed the draft to Richard Hove, the Minister of Public Works, and the Zimbabwe Bird, missing from the initial design, was added at Cederic Herbert's suggestion; Robert Mugabe, then Prime Minister-elect, saw the final draft, and the flag was adopted on 18 April 1980. The soapstone bird is a statuette found at the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, first used in 1924 on the Southern Rhodesian coat of arms; the star beneath it is officially the nation's aspirations, though it is commonly thought to stand for communism and socialism, and with the revolutionary struggle for freedom and peace.

Its day
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
