- a triangle at the pole
A wedge whose base is the whole pole edge, widest halfway down, in a colour the fly side is not painted in.
What is on it
Each of these is what this flag's own Wikipedia article says is on it, the sentence is underneath, so you can see what it rests on.

What we know about it
The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic adopted this as its official flag on 27 February 1976, and the design is said to be El Uali Mustafá Sayed's, the SADR's first president. SADR-controlled areas fly it; on the occupied parts of Western Sahara the Moroccan flag is used; the two parties signed a U.N.-brokered ceasefire in 1991, and the sovereignty of the territory remains unresolved pending ongoing peace-talks. The Palestinian flag is the model for the design, and that flag took its colors from the Arab Revolt.

Its day
The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.
Nearest in the world
Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
