How it is put together

Nothing the measurement has a word for. It reads eight shapes off a picture: bands, a canton, a wedge at the pole, a disc. This flag is not any of them, so the space is left empty rather than filled with a description nobody took. The finder says what else it cannot see.

What we know about it

The republic's first First Lady, Emlain Kabua, designed the flag, adopted at the start of self-government on May 1, 1979. The rising diagonal band is the equator, the star above it this Northern Hemisphere archipelago; white and orange in the band are the Ratak Chain (sunrise) and the Ralik Chain (sunset), and also peace and courage. The star's 24 points are the electoral districts and the four elongated ones the principal cultural centers of Majuro, Jaluit, Wotje and Ebeye; no other national flag carries a star with as many points.

Drafted from Flag of the Marshall Islands on Wikipedia, as it read on 2026-08-26, and checked back against it: every date, name and number above appears in the sentences it was written from. Nobody here wrote it by hand.

Its day

The almanac keeps a page per day of the year that something is dated to. This flag is on one of them, with the sentence that says so.

Nearest in the world

Every flag is compared with every other one, off the pictures themselves. Two copies of one picture score 0; these are the closest to this one. How that is measured.
