Was wir darüber wissen
Ein eigenes Wappen bekam Sint Maarten im November 1982, und im August des Jahres darauf gab es einen Wettbewerb für eine eigene Flagge; am 13. Juni 1985 nahm die Regierung das Banner an, das Roselle Richardson entworfen hatte. Am 10. Oktober 2010 lösten sich die Niederländischen Antillen auf, und sie wurde die einzige Flagge, die in Sint Maarten geführt wird, das damit ein eigenes Land im Königreich war. Das Blau steht für das Meer und den Himmel, das Rot für das Blut der Menschen von Sint Maarten, und der Schild trägt das Verfassungsgericht in Philipsburg und das niederländisch-französische Freundschaftsdenkmal, das die Grenze auf der Insel markiert.
